'Bigboy' Scoops Another Top Film Award

Harry Mett's a suicidal who gets caught up in dogging in bigboy_74
Tom Marshall’s short comedy bigboy_74 has scooped another film award. This time it took the top prize at the BBC New Film Makers Awards 2007.

Tom’s self-funded short which is about a suicidal guy who gets caught up in the seedy world of dogging, features Jo Hartley (Dead Man’s Shoes) and Harry Mett. It was shot just outside Middlesbrough on a budget of £300 and won the Thinksync Film Competition earlier this year.

bigboy_74 was one of ten films shortlisted from over 100 entries submitted to the annual competition. The announcement was made at an event in Bristol last week. As well as receiving a cash prize of £5,000, the film is to be screened on BBC3 next month.

Tom said: “Far too many shorts are serious. I thought it would be interesting to start a film as if it’s going to be a really depressing short about suicide and then flip it and have it about this ridiculous encounter based around dogging…”

It’s second time lucky for Tom. Last year he and fellow Cleveland College of Art & Design student Matt Rozdoba-Hallows narrowly missed out on the prize with their poignant film Daddy’s Girl. Matt formed part of the three man crew that worked on bigboy_74.

Tom is currently studying at the University of Teesside and is putting the finishing touches to a DigitalCity funded documentary project.

bigboy_74 is being screened on BBC3 on Friday 14th December at 9.40pm.

…But you can watch it on-line here if you can’t wait.
