Newsha Tavakolian Exhibition at Decisive Moment Gallery

Students Protest by Newsha Tavakolian

The Decisive Moment Gallery is exhibiting the work of celebrated Iranian photographer Newsha Tavakolian.

The collection - which is entitled Sisters in Chanel and Chador - is being shown for the very first time in the UK at the Darlington based gallery. It captures the faces of Iran that rarely appear in British newspapers - vibrant images that shatter the media’s portrayal of Iranian women. The photographer documents the changing role of women in a country where they are empowered to go to university, and now out-number men.

Tavakolian has been working as an Iranian press photographer since she was 16. Her pictures have been published in Time Magazine, Newsweek, Stern, The New York Times and Le Figaro. Last year she was a finalist of the Inge Morath award.

The Sisters in Chanel and Chador exhibition takes place from 27th September - 22nd November. Admission is FREE.

The Decisive Moment Gallery is based in Darlington Arts Centre on Vane Terrace. For further information Call: 01325 488139, Email: dmg@mediaworkshop.org.uk or visit the website
